ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW SCHOLARSHIP

IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS THAT WE WERE INFORMED OF THE PASSING OF A BELOVED MEMBER OF OUR COMMUNITY, SANDY THOMAS.

The Sandy Thomas Memorial Scholarship is being established to commemorate the extraordinary life and legacy of Sandy Thomas. Sandy was a 1981 Burlington-Edison High School graduate and received a bachelor's degree in political science and history from Washington State University, Summa Cum Laude, in 2010. While growing up in Skagit Valley, Sandy was active in the 4-H club with horses and played volleyball for BEHS.  Throughout her entire adult life Sandy made a career in philanthropy, giving back to a number of organizations with her time, talent, and treasure.

Sandy's husband Doug is both a BEHS graduate (1982), FFA member, and a WSU Agricultural Economics graduate (1987). Their daughter Lauren also graduated from WSU (2014) with a degree in Apparel Merchandising. The Thomas family prioritizes giving back to those schools and organizations where they have both fond and memorable experiences.  Their time at BEHS and WSU forever impacted their lives.  Sandy's hope was to establish a fully endowed scholarship at BEHS that will allow future students with similar backgrounds to achieve success by supporting their educational journey to WSU.
